Capital Cloggers Canberra
Yes I want to learn! When can I start?
****** Beginners can be accommodated at various times throughout the year, so contact us if you wish to learn. ******
- Capital Cloggers Canberra is the oldest clogging club in the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), Australia.
- Clogging is a folk dance that originated in the Appalachian Mountains of the USA. Today it is performed to a wide variety of music styles. The steps are called or cued and no partner is required. Once the basic steps are mastered, shoes with special taps are worn. Otherwise there is no special clothing required.
- For more details about what clogging is, check out the Australian Clogging Association Inc (ACA) webpage.
- Capital Cloggers meet each week on Wednesday nights from early February until mid December.
- Classes run from 6:30pm to 9:00pm and cover all levels from Beginners to Advanced.
- Venue is the Campbell-Duntroon Scout Group Hall, located behind the Campbell Shops, Blamey Place (off Blamey Crescent), CAMPBELL. The hall may also be accessed from Chauvel Street.
- Cost is $8.00 per week for adults or $4.00 per week for students, on a pay as you go basis.
- Club Leader is Kathy Hedger, phone 0408 866 764. Kathy is actively involved in the ACA as Secretary, previously spent over 10 years as Cue Sheet Co-ordinator and has been inducted into the Australian Clogging Association's Hall of Fame.
- Capital Cloggers has a sister club in Yass, New South Wales (NSW). Called Yass Country Cloggers, it is also run by Kathy.
- At the club Kathy is assisted in teaching and cueing by Kylie Cutler and Rebecca Peisley.
- The self-appointed Social Secretary and all round bossy boots is Jan Collins, phone 0415 922 433. Jan is currently the Treasurer of the ACA and has also been inducted into the Australian Clogging Association's Hall of Fame.
- The real Social Secretary is Lorraine Peisley, phone 0411 884 252. Lorraine is currently the ACA State Rep for the ACT.
