= Roger Farrell won the ACT Lightning Championship on 3 February at ANU Chess Club with 9/9.
= GM Zong-Yuan Zhao won the Australian Championship in Sydney. Junta Ikeda came equal eighth and narrowly missed an IM norm.
= Several Canberra players competed in Australian Junior Championships in tasmania. Andrew Brown came second in the championship and Megan Setiabudi won the Girls Under 14 title.

= Junta Ikeda won the 2009 Vikings Weekender with 6/6.
= Emma Guo and Milan Grcic tied for first place in the ACT Championship at Vikings, Erindale.
= The 2009 ANU Open was won by GM(elect) David Smerdon. The Minor resulted in a three-way tie between Ethan Derwent, Joshua Bishop and Joe Marks.
= Alana Chibnall won the Minor section of the 2009 Doeberl Cup. The Premier section was won by IM Deep Sengupta (India) on tie-break from GM Gawain Jones (England) and GM Chakkravarthy Deepen (India). Colin Cloudsdale (SA) (first on tie-break) and Brendoon Norman (NSW) won the Major.
